Supplemental Irrigation with Brackish Water Improves Carbon Assimilation and Water Use Efficiency in Maize under Tropical Dryland Conditions

چکیده

Dry spells in rainfed agriculture lead to a significant reduction crop yield or total loss. Supplemental irrigation (SI) with brackish water can reduce the negative impacts of dry on net CO2 assimilation farming semi-arid tropical regions and maintain productivity. Thus, objective this study was evaluate carbon rates, indexes for use efficiency, indicators salt stress maize plants under different scenarios, without supplemental water. The experiment followed randomized block design split-plot four replications. main plots simulated scenarios found Brazilian region (Rainy, Normal, Drought, Severe Drought), while subplots were using an electrical conductivity 4.5 dS m−1. reduced photosynthetic capacity maize, especially Drought (70% reduction) (79% reduction), due stomatal nonstomatal effects. plant stress, averted excessive accumulation salts soil sodium leaves, improved rates. also promoted increase physical productivity, reaching values 1.34, 1.91, 3.03 times higher than treatment SI respectively. represents important strategy that be employed biosaline regions, which are increasingly impacted by shortage. Future studies required other systems nonsimulated conditions, as well long-term effects types region.

Effect of Nutrition Management and Application of Zeolite on Fertilizer Use Efficiency and Water Productivity in Two Maize Cultivars (Zea mays L.) under Deficit Irrigation Conditions

Abstract: To investigate the effect of nutrition management along with zeolite application on the fertilizer use efficiency and irrigation water productivity of two cultivars of maize under deficit irrigation conditions, a field experiment was carried out. The experiment was conducted at Soil and Water Research Institute, Karaj, Iran, in 2015 and 2016, in the form of a   factorial split plot...

WATER USE EFFICIENCY Deficit irrigation in grapevine improves water-use efficiency while controlling vigour and production quality

Grapevine irrigation is becoming an important practice to guarantee wine quality or even plant survival in regions affected by seasonal drought. Nevertheless, irrigation has to be controlled to optimise source to sink balance and avoid excessive vigour. The results we present here in two grapevine varieties (Moscatel and Castelão) during 3 years, indicate that we can decrease the amount of wate...

Cultivar Mixture Cropping Increased Water Use Efficiency in Winter Wheat under Limited Irrigation Conditions

The effects of cultivar mixture cropping on yield, biomass, and water use efficiency (WUE) in winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) were investigated under non-irrigation (W0, no irrigation during growth stage), one time irrigation (W1, irrigation applied at stem elongation) and two times irrigation (W2, irrigation applied at stem elongation and anthesis) conditions. Nearly 90% of cultivar mixtur...

Carbon assimilation and water-use efficiency by neighboring Mediterranean-climate oaks that differ in water access.

Quercus agrifolia Nee and Quercus durata Jeps. are sclerophyllous evergreens that co-occur in regions of northern California that have a serpentine-derived soil. The species are of similar stature and density where they grow together, even though late-drought xylem pressure potentials indicate that Q. durata has access to more soil water than Q. agrifolia. To assess how carbon uptake and water-...

Maize response to water, salinity and nitrogen levels: yield-water relation, water-use efficiency and water uptake reduction function

Water, salinity and nitrogen are the major factors affecting maize production in arid and semi-arid areas. The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of different water, salinity and nitrogen levels on yield-water relationships, water use, water productivity (WP), water use efficiency (WUE) and water uptake reduction function by maize hybrid SC-704 in a semi-arid area and ...
